Community Night Brings Groups to Schools

Girl and boy scout troops, local sports teams and churches set up booths for first community night at Jefferson Intermediate.

About 30 churches, youth sports organizations and other local groups lined up inside Jefferson Intermediate last Thursday for the first community night in the St. Charles School District.
Under district policies, groups are not able to distribute materials to students, so the district organized a community night so groups share information directly with students and their parents.
"I've had to say no to a lot of these groups as far as advertising," Superintendent Jeff Marion said. "This is a way to say yes to churches and groups."
More than 30 groups participated in the first event and a steady stream of parents and students filed past the booths Monday.
"I got lots of positive feedback from both parents and students," he said.
A second community night is planned from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 28 at Hardin Middle School.
