Ladies: Before you Marry Him...

O'Fallon dad's advice for his daughters: How he treats is mom is how he's going to treat you.

I have three daughters. Most of the time they go to their mother for advice.  I'm okay with that because I don't have answers for most of their questions. But one piece of advice has come from me and that advice deals with things to look for before getting married to a man.

Rule #1: How a man treats his mother is how he's going to treat you. So be very observant. Is he kind to his mother? Does he show her the proper respect? If not, he won't be this way towards you either.

Rule #2: How a man keeps his car is how he's going to keep his house. If his car is always messy and the engine light is on most of the time, beware. He'll leave his clothes all over the place and you'll be playing maid if you marry him. And you can forget asking him to fix anything around the house when it breaks.

Rule #3: Play a game of pictionary with him. This will show you how he will behave when he gets frustrated with you in the company of others. Will he demean you? Will he raise his voice? Or will he have patience and work with you in a loving way.

Rule #4: Wallpaper a room together. This rule is similar to rule #3 but will test his limits and you'll get a chance to see how he handles anger when it's just the two of you. Will he go ballistic or will he remain reasonably calm and try to make the best of a bad situation?

And ladies, if you expect him to change just because you marry him you are mistaken. Things will change and it may take time. However, if he runs around with his buddies all the time before you're married, don't expect the moment he gets married he will change all of this.

Spot on Rich, great advice! If these signs are heeded, it could keep away a lot of heartache in the end!
