State Rep. Chrissy Sommer Reminds Residents Impacted by the Severe Storms of Options for Assistance

State Rep. Chrissy Sommer wants area residents who were impacted by Friday's extreme weather to be aware of several options for disaster-related assistance. The line of severe storms ripped through the St. Louis area Friday evening leaving many without power and causing significant damage to homes and other structures. While the destructive storm system resulted in no deaths or serious injuries in the area, Sommer said she realizes many families likely now need assistance. She suggests that residents start their inquiries with the local branches of the State Emergency Management Agency. St. Charles has two local SEMA offices that can provide residents with both help and important information. One office is located at 5490 5th St. in Cottleville and can be reached at 636-498-6565. The second office is located at 2032 Hanley Road in Dardenne Prairie and can be reached at 636-561-1718. Sommer said either office is a great first point of contact for residents for more information or assistance options. Sommer said the Red Cross is also available for assistance. Local offices are located at the Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters and at 13369 Olive Street Boulevard in Chesterfield. The St. Peters location can be reached by phone at 636-397-1074. The Chesterfield location can be reached at 314-205-0981. “We were so very fortunate to survive these storms without loss of life or major damage, but there are still many residents in the area who need assistance to deal with the damage left behind by the severe weather,” said Sommer, R-St. Charles. “I want the people in the area to realize they do have organizations standing by to help. I urge them to make good use of these resources in this time of need. They can also contact my office at 573-751-1452 if they have any questions on where they can get help.”
