ST. LOUIS – Prudential Select Properties will have several Realtors participating in the Nationwide Open House Weekend from Sat., April 20 to Sun., April 21, here and all across the nation.

For one weekend, Realtors will be holding open houses in neighborhoods from coast to coast, bringing value to both buyers and sellers. The event also provides a tremendous opportunity to promote the benefits of homeownership and continue an open dialogue with customers about the housing issues that matter most to them.

Over 100 Prudential Select Properties real estate agents will be hosting 115 open houses in several areas of St. Louis including South County, Des Peres, Clayton, O’Fallon, Jefferson County, Ballwin and Chesterfield, Northwest County, Town & Country, St. Charles County, and Troy, Mo.

The Realtor Nationwide Open House aims to engage consumers regarding the benefits of homeownership to families, communities, and the economy. Realtors will also be present at the open houses to offer expert insight and advice regarding the local housing market and to answer questions from consumers concerning the home buying and selling process.

According to the data from the National Association of Realtors®, the typical recently purchased home was 1,860 square feet and was built in 1996. The typical buyer purchased a home with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms, while slightly half of the homes purchased were on a single level. When it comes to home features, buyers prefer central air conditioning the most while walk-in closets were second. The two most common rooms buyers were willing to spend more for included a laundry room and a den/home office.

The National Association of Realtors® 2012 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers also indicates that in 2012, 45 percent of all buyers used an open house as a source in their home search process. The report also showed that repeat buyers, those with income between $55,000 and $75,000, buyers 65 years or older, and couples are much more likely to find their home through an open house compared to others.

Data from www.realtor.com indicates that this spring will likely be a particularly busy home-shopping season. Homes are on the market approximately 98 days nationwide – a decrease of nearly 12 percent year after year. In addition, the number of homes on the market has also decreased since this time last year by nearly 16 percent; therefore, today’s buyers are competing for fewer homes and must act more quickly as homes are selling more quickly.
