Update: Family Plans To Move To Keep Pet Pig

St. Charles Police give Meyers family until the end of this week to move their Juliani pig out of the city.

After in the city, pig owner Kerrie Meyers and her family are planning to move.

Meyers said her family received a notice from animal control about their pig, Pepper, in late August.

Lieutenant Dave Simpson said the St. Charles City Police have given the family until Friday to find a new home for the pig outside the city.

“The owner is being contacted with a notice of violation. It will give the family till the end of the week to find an alternative location to house the animal. If at the end of that time, if has not been moved, they will be cited for the violation,” Simpson said.

A citation would mean the family would have to appear in court for violating the ordinance.

Kerrie Meyers said her family intends to move to unincorporated St. Charles County to keep Pepper. In a , Meyers stated that different family members would be taking care of the pig until the Meyers could find a new home.

In an email, Meyers said animal control has been very understanding of her family’s situation and the family is eager to live with Pepper once again.

“We are in 100 percent compliance with the ordinances at this time and looking forward to having Pepper live with us full time,” Meyers said.

Kerrie Meyers first brought the measure to allow the pig in the city to the city council in early August. The measure was voted down on the council’s meeting on Sept. 20.

Pepper is in training to become a . Meyers said Pepper has a lot of potential to do good works in the city.
