Anne Zerr Wins State Rep. District 65 Race, Pledges to Work with Nixon

Republican Anne Zerr coasted to an easy victory in her bid to represent the new House District 65, which encompasses most of St. Charles and northeast St. Charles County.

Zerr took 81.55 percent of the vote to Libertarian John R Alsup's 17.83 percent. No Democratic candidate filed. 

Zerr was first elected to the 18th District in 2008, when she beat both Tim Swope and Alsup with 59.3 percent of the vote.

Zerr is chair of the economic development committee in the House. She said she has several initiatives she'd like to put forward next spring.

"I've spoken with (Sen.) Tom Dempsey, we're going to have a good relationship between the house and senate," she said. "We'll put bills out that both chambers have agreed on and I think we can get those across the finish line."

Zerr is supportive of tax breaks for organizers of amatuer sporting events like the Final Four. 

"We want to make sure the state has a good return on investment," she said. "We can't give away stuff anymore with the budget." 

Zerr said the legislature will continue to work with Gov. Jay Nixon, who was reelected. "If he takes credit for stuff we do, it still benefits the state of Missouri," she said. "We've got to get the egos out."
