Republican Sommer Wins Election to State Rep. District 106

Republican Chrissy Sommer won 60.19 percent of the vote to Democrat Morton Todd's 39.65 percent.

Republican Chrissy Sommer beat Democrat Morton Todd in the race for the newly created 106th State House District on Tuesday, winning more than 60 percent of the votes.

Sommer said she's looking forward to being able to stop campaigning.

Sommer has represented the 15th District since last November after she beat both Democrat Paul Woody and Libertarian Bill Slantz in a special election. She also had an opponent in the August primary.

"It's been a lot of work to make sure people know my name," she said.

Sommer said she has a number of different bills she'd like to introduce during the spring session, including one that looks at nursing home advocacy and rights.

Democrat Morton Todd was reelected as the First Capitol Township Committeeman for the St. Charles County Democratic Central Committee in August. He also serves as president of the St. Charles County Democratic Party.

Earlier in the day he was feeling unsure of the ultimate outcome.

"You never know. I think it'll be a good race."
