Students and St. Charles Police Officer, recognized during MLK Day celebration.

The winners of a contest to create art inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will have their art on display at St. Charles City Hall.

The St. Charles Human Relations Commission, a group that promotes mutual understanding and respect among various people in the community, created a contest to encourage students to reflect on King's message of equality, justice and nonviolence.

The winners of the poster contest, which was open to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, were honored at the Jan. 21 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event held at St. Charles Borromeo Church on Monday.

St. Charles Police Officer Paul Yadlosky was honored by the St. Charles Human Relations Commission for his efforts to bring cultures in the community together.

"You have worked to diffuse major crises in our community htat could have led to disasterous results," said Pamela R. Coaxum in a letter to Yadlosky, informing of him of the award. "Because of your fluency in Spanish, you have been a bridge builder when language needed to be clarified."
