St. Charles May Keep Property Tax Rate Flat in 2012

Rate would remain flat at $0.9115 per $100 of assessed valuation.

City Council is expected to discuss keeping the tax rate flat in 2012 during Tuesday's council meeting.

The tax rate would remain flat at $0.9115 per $100 of assessed valuation. The council raised the rate in 2011 to cope with an expected shortfall. 

The owner of a home valued at $200,000 would pay $346.37 a year in taxes to the city.

The proposed general fund rate would be set at $0.5183 per $100 of assessed valuation, the public park fund at $0.2319 per $100 of assessed valuation and the tax rate for the bond redemption fund $0.1613 per $100 of assessed valuation. 

Assessed valuation of property in St. Charles has increased 0.6% in 2012 to $1.267 million.

A hearing on the proposed rate is set for Sept. 4.
