St. Charles Considers Permit for Group Home for Disabled Adults

On Tuesday, will consider a request for a permit for a group home that would be used by four developmentally disabled adults on West Adams Street.

“The service we provide is completely separate from home ownership or a lease,” said Executive Director of the Emmaus Resident Trust Foundation Lisa Drier. “We are providing the accommodation that allows these folks to live as independently as possible.”

No one spoke out against the home during the public hearing, although some people did have questions about the arrangement before hand.

During the Jan. 30 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission tabled discussion of an amendment to the zoning code to adopt a minimum distance requirement between existing and proposed group homes. The issue may be discussed at the March 26 Planning and Zoning Commission.
