S. Fifth/S. River Road Construction Set for Oct. 15 Completion

On a stifling Friday afternoon last week, workers were laying concrete as part of the widening project south of I-70. See what the drive through the project looks like.

Notice how congested the drive through South Fifth Street/South River Road has gotten just south of Interstate 70? See the drive through our camera as we navigate south through the construction.

The project started in April and is due to finish on Oct. 15, according to the St. Charles city website.

A June 25 update on the site noted that "The contractor plans to start replacing the pavement the first week of July," and as we drove through on Friday, it was clear that work was going on.

The components of the project include:

  • Intersection improvements.
  • Widening, addition of turn lanes.
  • Pavement replacement on South Fifth Street and South River Road.
  • Drainage improvements and realignment of the intersection for South Fifth Street and South River Road.
  • Addition of a turn lane to Veterans Memorial and the ramps to Interstate 70.
  • New sidewalks will be constructed along the east side of South Fifth Street and South River Road to accommodate pedestrian traffic.
