Councilwoman Seeks Compromise on Live Music on South Main

St. Charles City Council is expected to discuss the issue at a work session Tuesday.

is expected to meet in special session Tuesday at 6:15 p.m., which will be immediately followed by a work session.

The live music in some restaurants on South Main Street is on the agenda for the work session. to have the ordinance amended to allow restaurants on South Main Street that serve alcohol to apply for a conditional use permit to allow live music at their establishments.

Currently, the ordinance prevents restaurants that serve alcohol from having live music.

Councilwoman Mary Ann Ohms said she's interested in a compromise that might allow live music only inside. 

"I want a compromise position if we can reach it," she said last week. "I'm going to try to get the best bill possible."

Other issues on the work session agenda include:

  • Discussion of the Capitol Improvement Plan for calendar years 2013-2018 including discussion of building maintenance, streets, traffic signalization, street equipment, parking facilities, sanitary sewers, the police department and fire department.

Issues on the special council meeting agenda include:

  • Final passage of an ordinance authorizing sale of $19 million in NID Limited General Obligation Bonds for Streets of St. Charles at Noah's Ark Infrastructure and Site Improvement Project, Phase Two IMprovements.
  • An ordinance authorizing a contract with West Brothers Ford Inc for the purchase of seven 2013 Chevrolet Police Tahoes for $184,261.
  • Request to authorize continued interim pay to Mathew Seeds for Interim Management of the IT Department.
