Council Pushes Off Decision on Changes to Streets of St. Charles

Cullinan Properties asked the council to consider changes to the development plan.

The pushed off a decision on a request to reduce the minimum number of residential units that would be built at Streets of St. Charles project.

, asking to build between 400 and 590 units in two buildings. The current plan calls for 520 to 620 units to be built in four buildings on the site.

In addition, total square footage minimum would reduce to 718,000 from current low of 1.1 million.

Council members tabled the request because they said they still were looking for information that Cullinan Properties had not yet provided.

Councilman Dave Beckering, Ward-7, said he felt he didn't have sufficient data about how a significant reduction in residential and commercial square footage would impact the tax base.

The St. Charles City Council approved a $54 million subsidy for the project, which was then called Noah's Ark. The council also approved $44 million in neighborhood improvement district bonds. Beckering pointed out Tuesday that many of the current members of the council either voted against the subsidy or weren't on the council at the time it was approved.

Councilman Mike Klinghammer, Ward-8, asked the council to consider holding off on voting on the change until they could get that information.

Rob Wetherald, vice president of Cullinan Properties, agreed to provide the information in a timely manner after Council President Laurie Feldman, Ward-3 asked him to do so.
