City Considering Online Auction Service for Surplus Items

The city would operate its sales under a MoDOT contract with GovDeals.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the St. Charles City Council, a resolution up for consideration would authorize an agreement between the city and GovDeals, Inc. for the sale of city surplus items.

City documents state that the city will be able to post sales under the contract that MoDOT currently has with GovDeals, as long as the city passes a resolution acknowledging the state's contract.

There is not cost to the city; the winning bidder pays a 12.5 percent buyers premium on the transaction.

The city's Parks Department initiated the resolution. The city would still have to declare items as being surplus by council resolution, and would not be limited to using only GovDeals for its sales of surplus items.

Both St. Peters and Wentzville currently have items listed for sale on GovDeals.
