Big St. Charles Motorsports Plans to Expand to former Gateway Outfitters

St. Charles Planning and Zoning Board gives approval to site plan and conditional use permit.

plans to expand to the nearby former Gateway Outfitters building, which will house their Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Dennis Wappelhorst, general manager of Big St. Charles Motorsports, said they had acquired the former Gateway Outfitters building and the Golf Discount store.

Wappelhorst said store owners plan to build a mezzanine walkway between the current building and the former Gateway Outfitters building so that staff members can walk back and forth. The current building at 3830 West Clay will house their Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki motorcycles.

The Golf Discount store has been demolished, and on Tuesday, Wappelhorst got approval from the city's Planning and Zoning board to use the property as a parking lot serving both facilities. The city council is expected to consider the request at the June 7 meeting.

Big St. Charles Motorsports hosts events nearly every weekend with a live band every Saturday, said Wappelhorst. The extra parking lot space will give them more room for those events.
