Man Gets 15 Years for Statutory Rape in Ameristar Parking Lot, Other Charges

Police say Shaun Shroyer was supposed to take care of the girl for the evening, but instead gave her alcohol and had sexual contact with her.

A Troy man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following an incident on April 29 when he provided a teen with alcohol and had sex with her in the Ameristar Casino parking garage, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

In April 2012, St. Charles Police said Shaun M. Shroyer, 38, of Troy, had sex with the victim, who was under the age of 17, in the back seat of his car in the garage. 

The police report said Shroyer was supposed to take care of the girl for the evening, but instead gave her alcohol and had sexual contact with her.

Shroyer admitted to police he took the girl from hotel property, bought alcohol and was alone with her. He told police the girl had a crush on him “and would not leave him alone,” according to the police report.

Shroyer and the juvenile victim's family were once neighbors and have known each other for many years, according to police. St. Charles Police started investigating on May 9 after the incident was reported to police.

The Post-Dispatch reports Shroyer pleaded guilty to five felonies: two counts of forcible sodomy, forcible rape, statutory rape and endangering the welfare of a child. In addition ot the felonies, he also pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors: child molestation and knowingly allowing a person younger than 21 to drink intoxicating liquor.

He was sentenced by Circuit Judge Ted House.
