St. Charles Police Welcomes New Canine

Phoenix, a German Shepherd, will be able to track, detect contraband and protect officers.

Last week, the St. Charles Police Department welcomed Phoenix, a German Shepherd that is now part of the department’s K9 unit. Phoenix will be partnered with a K9-unit officer and together will complete their training in a few weeks.

Phoenix was donated to the St. Charles Police Department by the Grant Jansen Foundation. The foundation was established by Annette Jansen, whose husband, Grant A. Jansen, was a St. Charles Police K9 officer who died in a car crash on Sept. 10, 2008.

The foundation seeks to carry the legacy of officer Jansen by donating to numerous organizations through fundraising. They assist organizations such as Backstoppers, Autism Speaks and Missouri Concerns of Police Survivors.
