Update: Man Arrested Connection With Commerce Bank Robbery

Witness reported suspicious activity by driver of a van and St. Ann Police stopped a van matching the description soon after.

A man who apparently disguised himself as a woman to rob the St. Charles  on First Capitol Drive Wednesday morning has been charged with the crime. 

 took DeAndre A. Wilkes, 33, into custody on Wednesday. He was charged Thursday with robbery in the first degree.

According to St. Charles Police, Wilkes was dressed as a woman when he passed a note to the clerk at Commerce Bank, and implied he had a weapon although no weapon was displayed around 10 a.m. Wednesday. 

Wilkes is believed to have aborted an attempt to rob the in the 700 block of First Capitol Drive just before the robbery of Commerce Bank.

A witness reported suspicious activity by someone in a blue Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari van and around 10:17 a.m. St. Ann police stopped a similar vehicle on eastbound Interstate 70. 

Wilkes was identified by bank employees and money from the robbery was found. 

Bond was set at $200,000. According to court records, Wilkes lives in the 200 block of Emerling in St. Louis.
