St. Charles Man Indicted for Pointing Laser Beam at Airplane

The incident took place in St. Charles County Nov. 4, 2011.

A St. Charles man was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly pointing a green laser beam in the cockpit of an airplane and helicopter while in flight Nov. 4, 2011.

Brian David, 30, of St. Charles, was indicted Monday for a felony count of interfering with an airplane and helicopter, according to a release from the United States Attorney's Office. The case was investigated by the FBI.

"It is important to understand that the laser is no longer a pinpoint but a bright spotlight by the time it hits an aircraft, said Thomas R. Metz, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI St. Louis Division.  "It interferes with the operation of an aircraft because pilots are temporarily blinded."
