St. Charles Man Charged With DWI After Driving Over Curb Onto Sidewalk, Police Say

Christopher Slater Thumith, 21, now faces his third DWI charge, and he's accused of three assaults in the city of St. Louis.

A St. Charles man, who drove over a curb onto a sidewalk on Bennington Place in Maryland Heights, is charged with his third count of driving while intoxicated.

Christopher Slater Thumith, 21, of the 2800 block of Droste Road in St. Charles, was charged Aug. 13 with DWI as a persistent offender.

Maryland Heights Police said Thumith was pulled over after committing numerous traffic violations, including driving over the curb on Bennington Place near McKelvey Road July 18.

The officer reported he smelled alcohol on Thumith, who had water eyes and slurred speech, and did poorly on a sobriety test. Thumith was arrested and refused a Breathalyzer test.

Thumith has two previous DWI convictions, one in 2012 and another in 2011.

Thumith is being held in the St. Louis City Justice Center. He was charged in the city of St. Louis with two counts of third-degree assault and assaulting an officer for an incident on Aug. 30.

Bond for the DWI charge was set at $10,000. Bond for the assault charges was set at $3,000, cash only.
