St. Charles Firefighter Dies During Shift

Doug Haase, 60, was found in his bed in the fire station Wednesday morning.

A 27-year-veteran St. Charles firefighter died of apparent natural causes while on duty Feb. 1 at , 1550 South Main Street in St. Charles.

Doug Haase, 60, of Troy, MO, was found in his bed early Wednesday morning by other firefighters, said Capt. Dan Casey.

They had responded to a call Tuesday night and soon after Haase went to his own room in the fire station. When Haase didn't come down in the morning or turn off his alarm, the firefighters found him, Casey said.

Haase was a firefighter engineer and paramedic for the city of St. Charles and had served in the Lincoln County Fire Protection District from 1980 and 1995. He was chief of Lincoln County Fire Protection District from 1982 to 1984.

"He was a super nice guy," said Casey. "He was proud of his grandkids. And calm- he never got too excited about much."
