No Charges Filed Against Anti-Obama Protesters in St. Charles

St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar declined to file criminal charges.

Two people arrested for protesting President Barack Obama on an overpass over Interstate 70 in August won't be charged with a crime, according to the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's office.

Marc S. Messmer, of St. Charles and Jimmy "Duane" Weed, of Bridgeton, were arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on Aug. 17 while protesting on the Fairgrounds Road overpass.

The men were with a group of protesters and were arrested for failing to obey directives of law enforcement officers after they were told to leave the overpass.

Traffic on westbound I-70 was high because of the Festival of the Little Hills. Several traffic accidents occurred near the protests and law enforcement officers asked the protesters to leave due to the concern they were distracting motorists.

However, St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar said he does not believe criminal charges are appropriate or that they can prove a crime occurred, according to a press release.
