Man Stole Cadillac, Burglarized Home Twice, Police Say

Detectives said Gregory N. Murphy, 25, broke into a home’s basement in the first block of Bunker Hill in St. Charles County while the owners were home and stole food, change, and keys to a 2005 Cadillac Deville and a garage door opener.

A man was arrested Aug. 9 for driving a stolen Cadillac, which he stole after burglarizing a St. Charles County home, a St. Charles County Sheriff’s detective said.

A detective said he stole food, change, and keys to a 2005 Cadillac Deville and a garage door opener, according to the report. A .44 cal Special revolver was inside the car.

He then waited until the owners went to sleep, entered the garage and took the Cadillac, a detective said in the report. Eight hours later, he went to the same house and stole a safe with $600 cash, a gold necklace and charm valued at $1,500, and a diamond ring valued at $300, court documents state.

He was pulled over and arrested while driving along Old Muegge Road.

Murphy, of the 3000 block of West Adams Street in , was charged Friday with two counts of first-degree burglary, stealing a car and felony stealing.

According to the report, Murphy told police he sold the handgun and used the cash to buy heroin in the city of St. Louis.

Heather Burlew, 20, also of the 3000 block of West Adams, was arrested while riding in the Cadillac with Murphy. She is charged with tampering with property. According to the Sheriff’s Department report, she knew the car was stolen at the time.

Bond for Murphy was set at $50,000, cash only. Bond for Burlew was set at $10,000.
