Man Pleads Guilty To Attacking Inmates, Ramming Car, Using Stolen Credit Card for Bail

A man pleaded guilty Feb 26 to crimes that included:

• Beating another St. Charles County jail inmate until he had to be hospitalized and required surgery,
• Assaulting a second inmate
• Ramming his car into another vehicle in O’Fallon
• Using a stolen credit card to bail his girlfriend out of jail.

Steven Timothy Scott, 20, of St. Charles, also will serve sentences for damaging businesses and cars in Wentzville and St. Charles County. He had been on probation after pleading guilty to those crimes in 2011.

Scott has pleaded guilty to 13 charges in less than two years. The longest sentence is 10 years, and the sentences will be served concurrently.

Scott pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, and St. Charles Circuit Court Judge Richard Zerr sentenced him to seven years in prison.

While in jail awaiting trial on other charges, Scott and Robert E. Martin II punched and kicked another inmate, elbowing him repeatedly in the face.

The man required hospitalization and surgeries to repair fractures to his face, head and jaw. The inmate attacked was Bruce Hymes, 42, of Wentzville, according to a St. Louis Post Dispatch article.

Hymes was the owner of a tattoo shop in Wentzville who secretly recorded employees and clients in the restroom and threatened a man with a Taser.

Scott had used a slingshot to break the window of Full Moon Studios, Hymes’ business, in 2011.

Scott also was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree assault on another inmate on Jan. 28.

Fighting, stealing and bail fraud

Zerr also sentenced Scott to 10 years in prison on a receiving stolen property charge after he pleaded guilty to the charge Feb. 26.

Scott was at a large teen party July 6 at his girlfriend’s home in the first block of Seabiscuit Drive in St. Charles when he got into a fight, causing a large amount of damage to the home.

He then pawned stolen jewelry from his girlfriend’s home July 7 and went back to the home with his girlfriend to steal her stepfather’s pickup truck on July 8.

Scott also pleaded guilty Feb. 26 to a charge of fraudulent use of a credit card and Zerr sentenced him to seven years in prison.

Scott used a stolen credit card to bail out his girlfriend, Samantha Lay, who had been charged with stealing her stepfather’s pickup on Aug. 1. Scott also admitted to police he tried to use the card to rent a limousine and to buy items in St. Louis County.

Rams Car

Zerr sentenced Scott to seven years in prison for first-degree property damage. In that crime, Scott rammed a 2001 Hyundai Elantra into another man’s vehicle at Highway K at Laura Hill Road in O’Fallon.

Scott drove away, and the other man followed him until he stopped at Mill Pond and Autumn Hill, walked up to the victim’s car and punched his window and door, denting it. He then opened the door, bending it back until the door handle and hinges broke.

He then tried to punch the victim.

Busting windows, hammering cars

Scott had been on probation after pleading guilty Oct. 28, 2011 to eight counts of first-degree property damage. He was sentenced to four years on each of the eight counts after having his probation revoked.

Five of those charges involved shooting out windows on Wentzville businesses with a slingshot on Feb. 22, 2011, including damaging following businesses and property:

• Broke a window at Nails Spa, 1251 West Pearce Blvd.
• Broke a window at Full Moon Studios, 1433 Wentzville Parkway
• Broke a window at Northwest Pediatrics, 1660 West Meyer Road
• Broke a window at a building at 1603 West Pearce Blvd.
• Damaged window and a light at Bear Creek Golf Club, 158 Bear Creek Drive
• Damaged a vehicle window at 2306 Bear Fountain Run
• Broke a window at Genesis Salon and Spa, 1445 Wentzville Parkway

Full Moon Studios was Hymes’ tattoo parlor.

Scott also pleaded guilty in 2011 to three counts of first-degree property damage after damaging 14 vehicles on St. Peters Howell Road in St. Charles County, beating the cars with a hammer or scratching them.

Scott currently is being held at the Missouri Department of Corrections’ Fulton Diagnostic and Reception Center.
