Man Gets 20 Years in Prison For Brutally Killing Girlfriend

Steven J. Martineau pleaded no contest to charges that he killed his girlfriend in May 2012. He'll spend the next 20 years in prison.

Steven J. Martineau, the man police say killed his girlfriend in May 2012, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Martineau pleaded no contest to the crime.

Prosecutors said Martineau assaulted Linda Cerutti May 26, causing severe head trauma to the point of knocking her unconsciousness.

She remained unconscious and died June 10 as a result of her injuries. She was 50 years old.

According to a news release, investigators used inconsistencies in Martineau’s account of how Cerutti sustained her injuries and information from other sources to develop the case.
