Man Drowns in New Town Lake on Fourth of July While Swimming With Friends

A St. Louis man drowned July 4 in a lake at the St. Charles’ New Town development.

James Harrell, 20, of St. Louis was swimming in the New Town lake with friends when he dove into the lake and never resurfaced. St. Charles Fire Department rescue workers located Harrell after he spending about 30 minutes under water.

St. Charles Police responded to a call in the 3600 block of Galt House Drive at about 4:22 p.m. to a drowning report.

The St. Charles Police Department responded to the 3600 block of Galt House Dr around 4:22pm on Thursday July 4 for a report of a drowning.

Harrell was taken to a local hospital where he died later.
