Man Charged with St. Charles Infant's Death

Police said Jarrett Reed was caring for the baby when she received her injuries, believed to be the result of shaking.

A St. Louis man has been charged in the death of a 3-month-old infant in St. Charles.

Police arrested Jarrett Reed, 21, of the 2100 block of East Linton Street in St. Louis.

St. Charles Police said Reed was caring for the infant when she was injured Aug. 26. That’s when emergency responders were called to Bel Rae Apartments because the infant, Maliah May Thomas, was not breathing. She later was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed the infant died from major internal injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Reed is charged with abuse of a child resulting in death.

He is the mother’s cousin. Bond was set at $100,000, cash only.
