Fire on Marina Drive Damages Apartment

Neighbor reported smoke detector sounding.

St. Charles fire fighters contained a fire on Marina Drive Sunday night to just one apartment in a complex of 14.

A neighbor called to report they could hear a smoke detector sounding and that they smelled smoke on Sunday night around 10:48 p.m. Sunday.

Fire crews noticed smoke coming from the roof of the apartment in the 600 block of Marina Drive, according to Dan Casey, public information officer for the St. Charles Fire Department.

Crews forced entry into the apartment and found the kitchen in the unit on fire. No one was home at the time of the fire. It was under control in 30 minutes, but damage is expected to be around $30,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to have originated on the stove in the kitchen, Casey said.
