A couple accused of breaking into a home last April in attempt to retrieve their daughter was indicted by a St. Charles County grand jury Nov. 30 of being accessories to burglary.
St. Charles Police said the mother, Jennifer Temm, 34, had asked Andrew R. Wilson, 31, the daughter’s father, and Matthew Wakeman to help her get her daughter from a relative’s home.
St. Charles Police said the family, who are relatives, had been advised by the Division of Family Services to keep the child pending an investigation. Temm and Wakeman are active heroin users, according to court documents.
Temm is from the 2800 block of Owendale in Oakville; Wilson is from the 5500 block of Seth Avenue in Affton.
Police said that Wilson and Wakeman broke into the St. Charles home in the 400 block of Elmhurst April 27 while Temm waited outside in the car. The two men kicked in a back door and entered the home intending to assault the woman caring for Wilson’s daughter, according to a police report.
Once inside the home, Wilson chased the woman caring for the child upstairs, and punched the woman’s 15-year-old son in the face, police said in the report.
Wilson began chasing the woman down a hallway to the master bedroom when the teen hit him in the back of the head with an iron fireplace poker. Wilson continued to chase the woman into the master bedroom and attempted to assault her, according a probable cause statement filed by police.
The 15-year-old continued hitting Wilson in the head and face with the poker until he lost his grip. Wilson, the son and the mother struggled over the poker. Wakeman entered the room and elbowed the 15-year-old in the face, the report says.
Wakeman grabbed Wilson and said, “Let’s go. The cops are on the way.”
On the way out, Wilson tried to force open a bedroom door and yelled, “Give me back my (expletive) daughter.”
Wakeman also faces an accessory to burglary charge stemming from the incident.
