The Second Cup: Dec. 19 Edition

You've had your first cup of coffee; now relax with the second and find out what's up for the day in Lake Saint Louis.

Good morning, Lake Saint Louis!

Can I vent for a bit here, even if it's over a pretty trivial matter? What is with packages of Christmas bows with colors that will never match any wrapping paper?

The last few years, it's been purple, and I have quite a supply built up. (It used to be blue, but this year there is a proliferation of blue paper, and I've had no problem using up my blue bows.) My family went on a purple paper hunt Friday evening. After checking several stores, we finally found three rolls of wrapping paper: one has a sprinkling of off-purple ornaments, the other has some sort-of-purple background sparkles, and the third is just a silver-on-silver paper that I thought would work with the purple bows.

I haven't bought any bows this year yet, but when I looked at the packages my heart sank. It looks like the fashionable new color is a dark maroon. Why?

Hope you had a great weekend, got lots of things accomplished and can have a relaxing week before Christmas to got to parties, enjoy your company, go for a holiday lights drive, sit by the fireplace with a hot chocolate or watch your favorite Christmas movie.

It's Monday, and that means I'll be at city hall tonight for the work session and board of aldermen meeting.

At 6 a.m., I posted a . I had a lot of fun tagging along at the end of the parade and snapping pictures of happy kids and some great holiday decorations.

This week's . I've always been fond of the chocolate iced Bavarian cream-filled ones at . What's your favorite?

Today in history, courtesy of History.com: In 1998, President Bill Clinton was impeached by the US House of Representatives for obstructing justice and lying under oath following charges of sexual harassment and an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The Senate acquited Clinton of the impeachment charges.

Bows? Just don't use bows! I stopped years ago when I realized the designer bows in the bag meant I had to buy more bows to have the colors I really wanted - or I had to make them. A bow boycott. The paper is sufficiently festive! Less to buy, less to put away for next year, less frustration.

Interesting idea, Kemery. Or I could switch to curling ribbon!
