With new hearing protection device (HPD) technology, it is possible to protect hearing while firing 140+ decibel firearms which can cause immediate, irreversible damage to hearing.  According to the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA), only about half of shooters wear hearing protection all the time when target practicing. Hunters are even less likely to wear hearing protection because they say they cannot hear approaching game or other noises.

Two styles of HPDs, electronic and nonlinear, are designed for shooting sports. Electronic HPDs increase the gain of soft environmental sounds to aid in detecting the presence of wildlife while also effectively reduce the sudden loud shot to a safe level.   Both styles are available in various styles to meet the needs of all hunters and at price points that make them affordable.  Styles include earmuffs, custom in-the-ear devices, one-size-fits-all plugs, and behind-the-ear devices.  Consultation with an Audiologist makes selecting the type and style of HPD most effective and comfortable for the shooting sportsman.
