St. Charles Resident to Surprise her Mom on Mother’s Day with a Unique Gift

Hannah Cusworth was looking to give her mom something special for Mother's Day, a gift that was more meaningful than the typical gift card or flowers.

Hannah Cusworth was looking to give her mom something special for Mother’s Day, a gift that was more meaningful than the typical gift card or flowers. Hannah’s mom has been battling multiple sclerosis for years so to show her support Hannah has decided to surprise her mom by swimming 500 laps in 30 days for the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA); raising awareness through Swim for MS, the signature fundraising program of MSAA.

When Hannah came across Swim for MS, she immediately liked that it was something she could participate in on her own terms. Swim for MS encourages volunteers to create their own swim challenge to recruit monetary pledges through online donations. By April 30, Hannah not only accomplished her goal of swimming 500 laps but with the help of her supporters was also able to surpass her goal of raising $1000 for the programs and services offered by MSAA. “I was humbled by the support shown to me and my mom by friends, co-workers, and by people that have never met my mom,” stated Hannah.

Hannah’s hope is that this Mother’s Day surprise will show her mom how much support she has from friends, family, and the community. “Swim for MS is a great opportunity to show support for the many individuals affected by this debilitating disease,” said Hannah. “It is a win-win in that you get great exercise while making a true difference for the MS community.”
