Greater St. Charles Chamber Stages 5k Race on Page Avenue Extension

The "Turning the Page -Reflections on Progress" 5k race will start at 9 p.m. Aug. 25.

Runners and walkers will have a chance to check out phase two of the Page Avenue Extension before it opens.

The is hosting a night run Aug. 25 on the new six-mile section of road from Harvester Road to Mid Rivers Mall Drive in . City leaders and Missouri Department of Transportation Officials plan to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30.

Races have been held to celebrate the opening of other major roads including phase one of the Page Avenue Extension, the reopening of Highway 40 and, most recently, the Highway 141 extension.

Chamber President Scott Tate said the runs are a good fundraiser. The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce used to host a 5k race during the New Town Blast, and then opted to instead host a down Main Street in December. This 5k run and 1 mile walk will start at 9 p.m.

"We'll have to light up the course, but the nice thing is, it'll give us an opportunity to promote safe night time running in a worry free situation. It's not like we have to shut down the streets," he said.

Runners and spectators will have to sign a waiver because the road is an active construction site. The cost is $30 for runners and $20 for the walk before Aug. 23; registration costs go up $5 after that date.

Spectators must pay $10 to watch the race, but the first 100 to register will receive a free commemorative t-shirt.

Tate said the fee is necessary for spectators because everyone must take a shuttle to the race. Parking is available at United Methodist Church of the Shepherd, 1601 Woodstone, in St. Charles, or at Walmart, 1661 Jungermann Rd.

"That's our compromise," he said. "If we're shuttling people out there, the more people we have, the more buses we have to rent."

Big River Running Company will provide timing for the event. Sign up for it here.
