Schroeder to Lead New Lindenwood School

Cynthia Schroeder, PhD, has been appointed dean of the newly created School of Sport, Recreation, and Exercise Sciences at Lindenwood University.

By the start of the fall 2014 semester, the new school will deliver many programs currently offered through the School of Education and School of American Studies. It will house all undergraduate degree programs in athletic training, physical education and health, recreation administration, and exercise science, the latter of which includes a popular minor in nutrition and a graduate program in human performance.

Schroeder said the creation of the school was prompted by strong growth in all areas of health and fitness sciences, exercise science, and recreation administration. She pointed out that she’s already received approval to add an adapted sports recreation minor to the program lineup and emphasized that her focus moving forward will be on increasing growth in all areas of the school.

Schroeder was hired full-time at Lindenwood in 2010 as an associate professor in the Department of Health and Fitness Sciences and has served as department chair and coordinator of the human performance graduate program. She holds a doctoral degree from the University of Kansas and has numerous publications, presentations, and professional experiences to her credit.

“Cynthia will be creating the foundations of an exciting new academic school with the help of some of the most experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated faculty in the areas of sports, recreation, and exercise science,” said Lindenwood President James D. Evans, PhD. “I have every confidence in her leadership and the talented faculty members who are joining forces with her to create what promises to be a fast-growing and vital new school at Lindenwood.”
