Celebrating Woman and Bicycles on International Women's Day

Today is International Womens Day, and what a better way to celebrate than on a bicycle!

"Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel...the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood."- Susan B. Anthony

Today is International Womens Day, and what a better way to celebrate than on a bicycle!  Folks from all over the world are doing something special to support woman and our fight for equality. Some countries have given women the day off work, some have thrown parties or protested for political action. But here in the U.S. there is little fan fair for the holiday.

What can you do, you ask?  Here is a list of 10 things you can do to support International womans day.  But I would like to suggest one more thing you can do, ride a bicycle.

A day like today is as good as any to celebrate women and the self-mobilization power of the bicycle.  As Susan B. Anthony has noted, the bicycle has played a critical role in women’s history and continues to provide an empowering sense of freedom to women and communities. It represents an inexpensive and efficient means to access work, stores, schools, and health care providers.  It's hard not to smile on a bicycle, as it embodies freedom, health and happiness.
