On Saturday, July 28, 2012 is celebrating Saturday Jubilee, a one day, community-wide food drive to help restock the shelves for the remainder of summer with area grocery stores serving as collection points. Hundreds of volunteers will position themselves outside of stores throughout the St. Louis region on Saturday, July 28,  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., asking shoppers to donate food items to support food pantries in the area.

Items needed include:

  • Cereal
  • Peanut Butter
  • Canned Meats: Tuna, Chicken, Beef
  • Soup, Chili, Stew, Ravioli
  • Canned Fruits & Canned Vegetables
  • Pasta, Rice, Beans
  • Baby Formula
  • Juice Boxes / Juice (Plastic Bottles)

Hunger is a year-long problem. St. Louisans are very generous in the winter months, but with the economy continuing to lag, more and more people are in need of assistance. We thank Schnucks, Dierbergs, Whole Foods, Shop ‘n Save and Walmart for their help in allowing OFS to collect food items outside their markets. We also thank the hundreds of volunteers who make this event possible and the people of St. Louis who’s generosity allows OFS to feed the hungry.

About Operation Food Search

Operation Food Search was established in 1981 to address the growing problem of hunger and has since become the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state area. The organization distributes more than two million pounds of food and household items to 250 community partner agencies which in turn feed 150,000 poor people each month, nearly one-third of whom are children.

For every dollar donated by individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations, OFS provides $22 worth of food and nutrition services to support the hungry. To learn more about Operation Food Search, visit www.OperationFoodSearch.org
