St. Charles Optimist Club to Sponsor Essay Contest for Students

St. Charles, MO, East Missouri District – The Optimist Club of St. Charles is encouraging area students to contemplate the phrase “How Can I Help My Friends Realize Their Value” as part of the Optimist International Essay Scholarship Contest for 2012-13.

The Optimist Club will judge the local students’ essays, based on the theme of “How Can I Help My Friends Realize Their Value” and determine the top winners. Winners will receive prizes which include Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals along with grants for $250, $125, and $75 for first, second, and third place winners, and recognition certificates for all participants. The winning essay will be sent to the district level. $2,500 college scholarships are available for the first place winners at the district level.

As Optimists, it is our goal to encourage them and do what we can to bring out the best in each of them.  This gives them a wonderful opportunity to tap into their creativity and pursue possible scholarships at the same time. The St. Charles Optimist Club has been active in the community since 1971. Other programs and service programs that the Club is involved in include our Oratorical Contest, Spelling Bee, High School Scholarships, Respect for Law Week, Youth in Government, and Youth Appreciation Week.
