Speeding Drivers Look As Steel Truss Goes Up on Blanchette Bridge

  • Most commuters are used to the lane closures on the Blanchette Bridge five months into the year-long reconstruction project. However, the recent activity from crews putting up the new steel truss has led to some rear-end accidents in the area, said Linda Horn Wilson, spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Transportation. "Most of the crashes we're having are rear-end crashes," Horn Wilson said. 

St. Charles Installs Video Cameras on Main Street

  • St. Charles has installed three security cameras on the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau on Main Street and has plans to install two more on North Main Street this spring. The cameras are part of the city's plan toaddress crime in the historic downtown area. Two cameras are installed on the front of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, one facing north and one facing south. A third camera is mounted on the back of the building and can pick up activity in the park.

Police: Drunk Man Broke into Church to Satisfy Ice Cream Craving

  • Indulging in a late-night ice cream craving may have led to an arrest for a St. Charles man. A St. Charles Police officer stopped Andrew S. Jung, 24, of the 500 block of Eighth Street in St. Charles, as he walked three blocks away fromSt. Peters Catholic Church at 2:38 a.m. March 8. Police said Jung was highly intoxicated and had ice cream on his face and clothes.

Fire on Marina Drive Damages Apartment

  • St. Charles fire fighters contained a fire on Marina Drive Sunday night to just one apartment in a complex of 14. A neighbor called to report they could hear a smoke detector sounding and that they smelled smoke on Sunday night around 10:48 p.m. Sunday.

Students Raise Money for Three AEDs for Local Schools

  • Hardin Middle School eighth graders Alex Philipp and Katelynn Houghton started out hoping to raise enough funds to buy an automated external defibrillator for the gymnasium at their school. Thanks to their efforts, Hardin Middle, St. Charles High and St. Charles West High Schools will each have an AED in their gyms.  Houghton's efforts to make sure gymnasiums have an AED were inspired by her brother, DJ Chastain.
