VFW Post 2866 Now Equipped with AED

St. Charles Fire Fighters Local helped post secure the automatic external defibrillator device.

The VFW Post 2866 now has an automatic external defibrillator device, thanks, in part, to support from the St. Charles Fire Fighters Local 757.

Fire fighters presented the AED to the VFW Post on Wednesday. Paul Schmidt, commander of the VFW Post, contacted the St. Charles Fire Department about assisting them in getting an AED because they have many events with elderly people from the community, said Capt. Dan Casey with the St. Charles Fire Department.

"A defibrillator in combination with good bystaner CPR provides the best support to save a life," Casey said in a press release.

The AED was donated by ZOLL Medical Corporation. The fire fighters purchased a case for the AED and will voluntarily train members of Post 2866 on how to use the device.

AED devices are used in the event someone experiences a cardiac arrest or life-threatening arrhythmia.
