Road Trip: Head to Western St. Charles County For Fun This Weekend

Wine tasting, pioneer days and more.

Augusta is gearing up for an influx of visitors this weekend who are heading out for the annual Harvest Festival. 

Visitors have a chance to sample local wines, learn more about the history of the area and even help harvest the grapes.

Before or after you stop by Augusta, head to the Historic Daniel Boone Home for Pioneer Days. The events run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18. Walk through the kids village, see trade demonstrations, period music and explore local archeological artifacts. Admission is $12 for an adult, $10 for seniors and $6 for children.

Events for Sept. 16

5:30 p.m. Swingin' In the Vines concert and picnic at Hoeft Vineyard. Cost is $85 for two people or $150 for four people. Reservations required, call 636-228-4005.

Events for Sept. 17

8:30 a.m. Participate in the Traminette grape Harvest at Yellow Farmhouse in Defiance. Orientation and harvesting begins at 9:30 a.m. and will continue to 11:30 p.m. Those who participate will get a free bottle of Yellow Farmhouse Wine.

10 a.m. Kids Harvest Parade. Participate in the parade, then have a hot dog or brat in the town park.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by the Augusta Glass Studio on Locust Street to see Sam Stang and Kaeko Maehata create glass art.

1 p.m. Gudied tour of Augusta's forgotten historic wine cellars and refreshments at the Augusta History Museum gardens. The event is free but reservations are required.

6:30 p.m. Wine Makers Social at Mount Pleasant Estates in Augusta. Meet wine makers from area wineries and with Todd Klimen, author of "The Wild Vine." Cost is $80 per person
