Missouri River Rises 10 Feet in St. Charles

According to the National Weather Service, there is a normal risk for spring flooding in 2012.

The Missouri River rose nearly 10 feet in less than a week in St. Charles. 

The river was at 13 feet on March 21 and quickly rose to 23.3 feet by Friday. On Tuesday river levels were at 21.7 feet and falling

Flood stage is 25 feet in St. Charles, although when the river rises, it can cut off access to the trails in Bangert Island, a St. Charles County Park in St. Charles located off of the Katy Trail.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a normal risk for flooding in the lower Missouri River Basin, which includes St. Charles, this spring. For the past several years, heavy snow melt has contributed to a higher risk of flooding. 

Last summer, for the month of June. The city moved .  starts flooding when the river reaches 31 feet.

On Tuesday afternoon, many people strolled through the park, taking in the river as it rolled by, a little higher than usual.
