Pack Backpacks for Children

Operation Backpack, an initiative of Operation Food Search, provides nutritious food to children at risk for going hungry over the weekend. The program currently serves over 2,700 children in the St. Louis area. Volunteers are needed on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. to unpack and arrange food items on a packing table. Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours volunteering in this capacity each week. Wednesday volunteers will help pack bags of food and canned goods into backpacks for children and restocking bulk food supply as necessary from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. has several upcoming volunteer orientations, which are necessary before volunteering. Sign up for one by emailing MaryPat Smith at marypat@crisisnurserykids.com. In St. Charles, orientations are held at the Outreach Center for St. Charles Crisis Nursery, 328 S. 4th St. In Wentzville orientations will be held at the nursery itself located at 700 Medical Dr. off of Wentzville Parkway. April orientation opportunities include 11 a.m. April 13 at Wentzville, 6 p.m. April 18 at Wentzville, 6 p.m. April 24 at St. Charles, 11 a.m. April 30 at St. Charles. 

Help Plan a Block Party

The Sparrow's Nest Maternity Home is planning a block party July 20th at First Baptist Church Harvester Realm from 7-9 p.m. The Flock Block Party is a celebration of our volunteers. "We are asking area small groups, youth groups, scout groups, civic groups to host a carnival like booth at this event. Some ideas are providing hot dogs and hamburgers, face painting, a pretty baby photo contest, adult and kids crafts, remote control car races, dress up photo booth, cake or used book walk, or any other traditional carnival ideas." Interested parties can call 636-336-2534 for directions.

Volunteers, interns wanted for summer and fall

The is seeking volunteers and interns for the summer and fall of 2012 semesters.  This unit of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has taken the initiative for the Saint Charles County community to provide needed services to aid victims of crime and assist them through the system of justice, to avoid being made to feel “victimized” a second time. Our mission is to help victims understand their rights, communicate relevant information about their case, and provide necessary services. Volunteers must provide their own transportation, submit to a criminal check, drug screen and complete our initial training program.  To schedule an interview or to ask any questions, please call Rachel Lenk at 636.949.7900, extension 5811.

Plant Flowers, Boxwoods in O'Fallon

O'Fallon has opportunities to help plant boxwoods in outside plots from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 3 and flowers in an entrance circle and around a building from 10 a.m. to noon April 4. All interested must pre-register, prior to the event. The location will be shared at that time. Contact Alexis Jaegers at ajaegers@ofallon.mo.us for more information.
