Frontier Park Restrooms Expected to Be Completed By Dec. 1

Work continues on Webster Park.

Construction on restrooms is expected to be completed by Dec. 1.

The St. Charles Parks Department opted to build just one bathroom near the Jaycee Stage. The cost for the bathroom was originally bid at $378,000, but was expected to be reduced to close to $300,000 after a series of design changes, ranging from different shingles to different sewer connections.

On Sept. 28, the Parks Board approved a change order to $316,850 with Layneco Construction Services for the project.

Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Chris Atkinson said the cost was higher than expected because contractors had to drill down 30 to 35 feet to hit the required depth for large metal anchors which will hold the bathrooms in place.

Webster Park is not open to the public, but parks staff members are working to develop the property, which is located off of Arena Parkway.

Currently, Park staff are renovating a garage on the property, turning it into a meeting area.

"We have a plan to create a small meeting area, community center, similar to the Gould building at ," Atkinson said.

Parks board member TJ Slattery said he'd like to see the date of the project is going to be completed and then manage to that date.
