Family Arena Plans to Re-Open, Reschedule Events Next Week

Family Arena staff plan to fix a large hole in the side of the arena over the weekend and reopen next week.

Family Arena General Manager Mark Reifsteck plans to begin repairs to the arena today and have it ready for business next week.

The arena was damaged during heavy storms that ripped through the area Friday ight.

Patch spoke to Reifstack Saturday morning as he and his crew were standing outside the Family Arena.

Reifstack said that the roof of the arena was not damaged. The most damage was done to a section of side wall that is visible from Arena Parkway.

"The roof's fine because it's domed," he said. "The wind, when it hit, sheared up underneath (a section of siding) and ripped it out."

Reifstack said that some of the insulation was blown out. "Other than that, it's just a pretty good-sized hole. It's all cleaned up, the water's cleaned up. Staff was here early."

He said that crews would frame up the hole and close it that day.

The only events canceled were the weekend's graduations. Reifstack said he hoped to reschedule the Francis Howell and Oakville/Mehlville graduations and that the Phoenix University graduation scheduled for June 9 should go on as planned.
