Boston Marathon Runner From St. Charles Already Crossed Finish Line When Explosions Hit

Boston 365 runner Seth Fankhauser was at his hotel and said he didn't hear the explosions.

A St. Charles marathon runner is calmly watching the news with his training group after completing the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon had people carrying bloody spectators into the medical tent set up for runners, according Back Bay Patch in Massachusetts.

Two have been confirmed dead. More than a hundred others are reported injured.

Seth Fankhauser , who had already completed the race, said he was going outside to meet his brother when the explosions went off.

“I didn’t hear anything, but he heard the two explosions and probably 10 seconds later people were running towards us and sirens were going off,” he said.

Fankhauser said he's not sure if he's so calm because he's in shock or because he didn't hear the explosions that shook the famous race.

Fankhauser  is a member of the 365 Boston training group, which he said includes five St. Louis-based athletes and three coaches.

He said after the race, he made his way to the hotel recovery lounge where all of his group has been accounted for.

The 365 Boston group includes:

  • Lisa Baragiola
  • Joan Becker
  • Heather Boegemann
  • Pam Morton
  • Melissa Shust
  • Sean Walsh
  • Bev Ofsthun

"There are some people that are pretty nervous and worried and there are still a couple from other cities all in the room with us and some have not made contact with all of their people, so they’re pretty on edge," he said.

Fankhauser updated St. Charles Patch via Facebook stating:

"They might be letting people out the back of the hotel now, but we can not get to anywhere north of the street that the finish line is on"
