Sunshine Donut Lady

Executive Director Renee Tillman tells why she loves her job.

by Renee Tillman

Every Monday thru Thursday mid-afternoon, there are 4 gentlemen who sit in the YMCA lobby watching TV after a brief swim, just chatting.  I call them 'The Guys'.

They flirt with me, give me a hard time about anything they can think of, and thank me for spending time with them every chance I get.

I bring them donuts from time to time as I live very close to the Old Town Donuts location in Florissant.

I am now known as the ‘Sunshine Donut Lady’.

Yesterday when I came in to work there was a lady sitting with them.  They told her about me bringing in donuts.  She asked me where the days’ donuts were.

I walked over to the gentlemen and jokingly said, "Guys, you know donuts don't grow on trees. I can only bring them so often on my budget."

They immediately went into their wallets and offered to pitch in and pay for them. “Don't bother, it's my pleasure,” I said. “I was only joking.”

When I came in to work today...this is what I found on my desk.

I guess they showed me that donuts really do grow on trees...they even included a coupon with the card!

I love this job!

So nice to hear about someone (else) that loves their job!

Heidi- I quite enjoyed reading this too. I used to be a member of the YMCA in Maryland Heights and they have a group of people who meet in the lobby each Friday and eat cookies. Anyone who walks by could join the cookie club. I didn't always stop, but it always made me happy to see them there.

Yeah, it saddened us when we realized that someone had discretely made a generous item donation butRead More had left their wallet in the donated gym bag. Our social media director Dawn Thomas was able to locate the teen and "Renew that Treasure " to it's owner. It gave us all such joy!
