Little Wonders

Recently I heard one of my favorite artists one the radio, Rob Thomas. With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching I began thinking of Rob’s song, Little Wonders. I thought of this song because it made me reflect on all the little things in life that are the most important. I have a two and a half-year old son, and life’s “little wonders” spent with him are the best moments. The most important moments in life are often the little ones.

I’d like to start with a line from Rob Thomas’s, Little Wonders: “Our lives are made in these small hours, these little moments…time fades away but these little wonders remain.” Much like the vast majority of you, I have a very hectic schedule with teaching and coaching. This song, and in particular, this line put things in perspective. Life goes by, but the greatest part of life lies within these small hours, these little moments. I am thankful for these moments and would like to share a few of them with you.

  1. I am thankful for all of the mornings (most of them) when I am running late. The other week I was frustrated because we were once again leaving the house late and I had wanted to get to school early to get some things done. While driving I thought of a blog post I had read (can’t remember from who or where) on this parent’s same problem. I am sure most of you who are parents know what I am talking about. Having a two-year old never really puts you on schedule. However, I am thankful for those late mornings where my son just wants to play, cuddle, or watch cartoons. I am thankful for the mornings we get to spend singing in the car or talking about what we see on the road on the way to daycare. I am thankful for our tardy departures from home because in the end those few minutes late don’t matter, what matters are the moments shared in the tardy times.
