Senator McCaskill Visited St. Charles Campaign HQ July 5th

On July 5th, Senator Claire McCaskill and her campaign RV emblazoned with her logo arrived exactly on time to greet over 150 enthusiastic supporters, volunteers, staff and reporters.  McCaskill told the group who braved the heat to show up at the formal opening of her St. Charles office that they should focus on three issues as they campaigned for her re-election.

The “Big Three,” as she dubbed them, were her opponents’ efforts to:

“Privatize Medicare." They want to give seniors a certain amount of money … and they are on their own.”

“Privatize Social Security,” which she alleged could lead to people losing all their retirement savings in
the stock market. “What if they invested in one of these firms that went buston Wall Street?” she asked.

“Privatize student loans,” which she said would result in only children from wealthy families qualifying for student loans.

McCaskill, who comes from a modest middle-class background, told the
crowd that she wouldn’t be a lawyer if not for the fact that there were student
loans.

She reminded the crowd how far out of the mainstream her opponents
are, asserting, “These three candidates make John Ashcroft look like a
liberal."

McCaskill was introduced by Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, who
like McCaskill – is a former county prosecutor and a former Republican turned
Democrat.  Koster's presence reinforces  McCaskill is an independent and moderate.

In his introduction, Koster praised the senator and, among things,
cited the battle over the Affordable Care Act. The audience cheered as he
declared, “The discussion of health care in this country has moved forward for
the first time in 70 years.”

Claire said it was so wonderful to see so many people who would come out and “sweat together” on a day with the thermometer
reaching over the 100 mark.  She implored her volunteers and staff to turn up
the heat on the three Republicans vying to run against her in the fall.

The office, located at 3551 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Suite 105, St. Charles MO 63303, is one of the new Missouri Democratic Party Coordinated Campaign offices, which the Democratic incumbent was officially opening on a stop in her statewide RV campaign tour. 

She already has been in over 7 cities so far this month and continues to trek across the state for the entire month of July.

McCaskill will face a Nov. 6
challenge from either one of three Republicans who are fighting it out to win
in the Aug. 7th primary.  Herappearance at the St. Charles office highlights one of her advantages going into the state's primary season with no Democratic primary challenger: She can focus entirely on her would-be Republican challengers, who are currently spending much of their time and effort going after each other.

Her rousing speech was basically to remind her supporters to press the message to voters before the primary that all three Republicans are to the far right of average Missourians, with stands that include privatization of Medicare and Social Security.

"They are three of a kind, one in the same. There's not a dime's worth of difference between them," McCaskill said, to loud cheers from the faithful who showed up. "They are running . . . for the very, very, very, very far edge of the
ideological spectrum.

"I'm proud to say I'm a moderate," she said. "They think compromise is a dirty word; I think it's cool."

As if to drive home the message of compromise, McCaskill wore a Republican-red dress to the event—witha black shawl that she quickly shed after stepping into the sun baked parking lot. "I'm incredibly impressed that so many people signed up to come out here and sweat today," she told the volunteers.
