Westlake Ace Hardware on Zumbehl Will Close For Good

Thirteen local employees will be laid off as a result of the closure.

on Zumbehl Road in St. Charles will close July 2. 

George Smith, CEO of Westlake Hardware, said in a press release that the store did not peform well enough financially to justify entering a new long-term lease agreement. 

“We regret we will no longer be able to serve the St. Charles community, however we continue to be committed to the St. Louis market with our two other stores in Brentwood and Crestwood," he said. "We want to sincerely thank our associates in these stores for all their hard work."

Westlake Ace Hardware has stores in  and Brentwood which will be unaffected by the closure.  

Liz Benditt, Director Customer Relationships Development at Westlake headquarters in Lenexa, KS, said 13 of the 14 employees in the store will be laid off. Those with at least one year of tenure will receive a severance package and will receive job and career counseling.

On Friday morning, the store was offering plants at 75 percent off and patio furniture was marked down 30 percent. Floor models of grills were marked down by as much as 33 percent off.

A local manager said she didn't expect the store to do a blanket percent off the whole store, adding that the merchandise would be transferred to other stores.
