Vintage Rental Shop Caters to Brides, Photographers

Jenny May and Tiffany Kaltenbach, both of St. Peters, started their vintage props rental business in 2010, just as the vintage look for weddings was gaining popularity. 
"It was really good timing on our part," Kaltenbach, 35, said. 
The pair, who have been friends since they were 15, started collecting vintage glassware, sofas, lamps, frames and other vintage goods. They spotted a similar type of business in California and began renting out props for weddings, events and photo shoots.
"We were fans of the style but we decided we don't like to get rid of anything," Kaltenbach said. 
Worn Vintage Rentals will open in a new storefront, at 825 North Second Street, on Aug. 13.
Inside of the space, racks of glassware line a wall, while vintage settees and chairs are clustered in the back. Tables are set up with sample arrangements for centerpieces that go beyond traditional flowers or candles. 
Most of their business is for weddings and photo shoots, but they also will rent items for other events. 
"A typical bride is someone who likes a vintage look, someone who likes things that are cohesive but not matchy," she said. "A little more of a custom personalized wedding. We try to reflect their style." 
For a bride, it often makes more sense to rent items like blue Ball glass jars for centerpieces, or giant framed chalkboards rather than buying them and sticking them in the basement when it's over, Kaltenbach said.
Rental costs range from $1 a piece up to $120 for a vintage sofa. In addition, Worn Vintage Rentals can do customized projects for weddings, like crafty centerpieces, signage or other ideas brides find on Pinterest. They also can be on site to set up the day of the event.
Worn Vintage Rentals is sharing a space with Todd Studios, a photography studio and is located next to White Traditions bridal shop.
"We felt like it was the right spot for us," she said, adding that the other businesses in Frenchtown are working together.
